into the realms of Sylvanian Families….

we had a nice day today :-)

We all got up a little earlier than usual and mooched about all doing different things - except Hermionie who wanted to do whatever anyone else was doing! Natalie has been drawing some lovely chalk pictures - inspired by SMart - she drew a fruit bowl and lot’s of yummy fruit in it then she moved onto playing with her Moonsand and sculpting a ‘cliff’ out of it. Both Hermionie & Natalie spent some time on the LeapPad and the many books we have for it (excellent for ‘educating them’ on the sly :-)). We checked the caterpillars and all but one has now turned into chrysalises, some are still twitching which freaks me out!!!! We also seemed to have gained a bright neon green-ish caterpillar from somewhere - I can only assume that there where eggs on the cabbage we were putting in and it’s hatched??? - still need to try and find one of those cheap netting laundry pop-up hampers to put them in - our little 12″ x 12″ isn’t the nicest surrounding for the butterfly’s to emerge into. Girls played outside for a bit.

Anyway… we offed out to Fareham Town Centre today, which we haven’t visited for a while - more little independent shops have closed (and a few larger ones!!) - it’s beginning to look just like any other High Street, just like Chichester now does and Petersfield is going that way too! - Grrrrrrrrrr …so yes, Fareham - had a McDonalds (naughty - but always get them grilled fresh - so nice!), Alex took kids to look around Woolies (more transformer oogling me thinks!) while I tried to find more educational book goodness in WHSmith and found a pack of Horrible Histoies Sticker Books (6 of them!) for just less than a fiver - who doesn’t love a good sticker book from which to remember a cunning fact or two?   - saw lot’s of other lovely book goodness but me don’t like paying full price so always take a quick snap on my mobile of the cover and will scour the charity shops and school fetes for bargain copies!!

Both girls had taken some of their piggy bank money (we don’t give them pocket money - yet!) to treat themselves with - Natalie saw some lovely horse & princess figures in ELC, not much really going on in Woolies for them so after a quick trip to Boots to buy budegt blusher & lippie with my Boots Advantage Points, and a feet check in Clarks (OMG they both have bigger feet than I thought - must go shoe hunting in the loft!!) … we popped off to Toys r Us (another diversionary tactic from Alex to see if they have had any more Transformer deliveries   ) - anyway - Hermionie chose the Peppa Pig Swings to go with her ever-increasing Peppa Collection and Natalie spent 3/4 hour int he Sylvanian Families aisle doing all sorts of sums about what she could afford - but more importantly how much money would be left for another day  ) - so…onto the slippery slope of Sylvanian Families we go with a Nursery and a baby something-or-other (I’m awful - I really should pay attention - shouldn’t I?) to go in it - I think I know what’s going to be on a certain 7-year old Christmas list this year!

Came home and made pizzas for dinner - kids (well mainly Hermionie!) watched some Peppa Pig whilst playing with her new bits and Natalie was trying to make a Nursery out of an old box (drawing wallpaper and making slides out of cardboard).

That’ll do me for now - nite!

If anyone wants to donate a new 2.8Ghz 24″ iMac to me - feel free! :-)

Went to Moors Valley with S, G, J & K - had a great day - picnic’d on the lawn by the lake then all off to the park, then it started raining! We sheltered under a tree for a while before deciding to set off through the forest trail despite the rain. We completed all the Forest Trail.

Stopped off for Dinner at Harvester - Yum!

Got home and put 2 tired kids to bed and watched some Heroes.

I checked out new iMacs and iLife 08 - yes please!

Farm Day

Went Flickr Pro today so family can keep up with the kids.

Went to Staunton with kids - Natalie was delighted to see the hand-reared lambs running free in the Children’s Paddock - we saw some - ‘few hours old’ piglets, ‘couple of days old’ piglets, Antonio the now shaven Alpaca (much to Alex’ disgrace - Antonio is his fav Staunton animal - he didn’t realise how skinny he is under all that fuzzy fur!

Sisters Running It's just too much for me Mummy! Sisters & the Lambs

Hermionie & the Lambs Natalie & her hand-reared lamb. Mummy pig & piglets Antonio's been shaved!

Bought a Mimosa plant from Staunton on the way out - always play too much with the one they have in the Glass House - so now we have our own.

Got home and we all watched an old Dr Who ep - Series 1.

Natalie has been Brain Training on the DS.

Alex & I are now into Heroes.

Rabbits Neutered

Got the male Rabbits neutered at Southampton RSPCA - while we waited for them we went to West Quay for a look around - found the new Apple Shop (((((((((me in heaven!!!!!)))))))))) lot’s of 24″ iMac goodness. Picked the Rabbits up all safe and sound and looking sorry for themselves :???: and dropped the girls round S&G’s while Alex & I went to pick up Natalie’s new bed (off eBay) and then we went back to West Quay, picked up a MacDonald’s for the kids on the way home.

Normal…ish service resumed….

So, the bleeding turned out to be the start of a complete miscarriage.

Not much to say really, having lost baby no 2 (Kaitlin), I don’t see this as being ‘quite as bad’ as that experience. I sound so blasé about it but I’m not - inside I really am not - but I’m sitting here at the other end of the past week having survived - so on with life. We’ll try again - soon - and pray (something I don’t often do but really should start!) that we can have a healthy 3rd addition to our family.

Over the past week we have:

• Visited S&G (you didn’t see that one coming did you?) - (((hugs))) to S&G for looking after the girls and putting up with us. Their butterfly’s have hatched (10/10 sothat’s not bad!) and have been released. We acquired a home for our chrysalis’ and they are still waiting to hatch. We have also gained what looks like a Cabbage Looper Caterpillar - found him in the garden when I was pulling weeds (and supposed to be resting yes I know…) out of the back garden (which over the past weeks has transformed into the back garden from hell!), he is in a lovely little jar (with airholes!!) munching on cabbages and getting very fat! Their loft is all finished now so I’m all jealous about the fact they now have a house twice as big as us!

• Natalie had her last Brownie session for the term at Queen Elizabeth Country Park on Thursday 20th - she also got enrolled - so now she’s a fully fledged Brownie with lot’s of badges for me to attempt to sew on her sash over the break. She managed to remember the Promise word-for-word and had a lovely time with all her Brownie & Rainbow friends.

• Natalie, Alex & I went to see Twelfth Night at the Chichester Festival Theatre on Thursday 19th (Hermionie stayed with Nan&GDad P for some Nanny-Time!) - not as good as Midsummer Night’s Dream (I think that’s just because I studied Midsummer Night’s Dream a bit more at school so was more familiar with it) but seeing Patrick Stewart rolling on the floor in cross-gartered in yellow stockings ‘meowing’ was not a sight to be missed. Poor Natalie - I wanted to introduce her to the theatre & Shakespeare - don’t think Twelfth Night was the best way to do it! - a bit heavy for her I think but still, she coped fantastically with having to sit relatively still and quiet (and not be able to ask questions every 2 seconds!) for 2 1/2 hours - think the huge cup of sweeties after the interval helped!

• Visited the hospital on Friday 20th for a check-up & scan to see if my body managed to cope with miscarriage itself and not need a d&c (which I probably would have refused anyway!), which it has so Yay for that I suppose … anyway… took the girls with us and while we were waiting Natalie was purusing through the leaflets and turned to me and said ‘Mummy….what’s an STD?’   made the others ladies in the waiting room laugh and left me with an awkward silence whilst trying to figure out how to answer.

• Saturday 21st found us at Ford Cumberland for English Heritage’s National Archaeology Event there. We went last and it was fantastic, this year was just as good - although there were a few bits missing that they had last year - we missed the blacksmith and bronze man, the old fashioned scuba-diver in the tank and the cave-painting but this year there was still enough to keep us busy. Natalie had a go at an archaeological dig and processed her finds afterwards, spent ages looking through very powerful microscopes at pollen and seeds and cave-man poo to see what we can learn about our surrounding area and about what cave-men ate, knocked a couple of stained glass paintings (ok, they were only glass-paints on acetate!), spent alot of time watching the alchemist perform his experiments - creating fire, making blood, making posion - turning something red into something yellow, making it froth and then made it fizz a bit! (I kept asking him what he was using but he kept referring to the ingredients in old language and never broke character so no go there then - will have to Google it - there was definitely vinegar involved though!) He also had a baby dragon in a jar - which Natalie kindly informed him that it was indeed a Large Prickly Stick-Insect that he had pulled 2 legs off!  - These experiments were not as groos (and dangerous!) as they sound and they kept a huge crowd of kids quite entertained for a long time! Natalie also felted a pebble. Hermionie & I ground grains into flour on rocks. We all had a go at making some clay pots. We wtached the Roman Gladiators fighting for a while - Natalie joined in and slayed a few! We all spent ages in the tents there looking at animal bones, sorting pigs jaws & teeth, tring to assemble a fox’ skeleton, determining the ages of trees, looking at aerial survey photos that appear to stand up through a device whose name escapes me right now - it’s a-something-oscope I think! There was just so much educational content for all of us (with the possible exception of Hermionie, who bless her, at only 2 years old - she could only really grind flour and play with clay!) and everyone around was very enthusiastic about helping the kids discover something new and pass on their knowledge…and did I mention it was free!! Excellent.

• Sunday 22nd found us back at Fort Cumberland for the 2nd day of English Heritage’s National Archaeology Event there. It was so good, we went back with S,G,K&J. Repeat of yesterday with a good dose of kids larking around on the grass!

Add in doses of DS’ing, drawing, DVD-watching, Education-City & playing with J&K.

and so to Today - Monday. Spent a quiet morning with the kids playing My Little Pony’s, I took the girls out for a MacDonalds and a look around MFI, Homebase and Town for some ideas on the soon-to-overhauled-bedrooms. We picked up some bargains in Primark and I spent some of my gift certificates in Boots. More Education City for Natalie in the evening.

Bored now. Bye!

Friday the 13th

Started off the day with brekkie in Tescos, followed by shopping at Tesco and ASDA because we’re going through the ‘I’m bored with Tesco’ phase again. Got a new pair of shoes at ASDA

I’m not a traditional girlie where shoes are concerned - I’ve about 3 pairs that I’ll wear, one’s a muddy pair of mountain climbing boots, the other are several times repaired brown calf-high boots and now these - they’re soooo comfortable I”m never taking them off!

We all went to a local school fayre in the afternoon and picked up a couple of bargains:

Pink ‘n stripey hats & gloves for Hermionie -

gorgeous aren’t they?

And black kinky barbie boots and a tartan belt for Natalie.

And lastly lots of lovely books…..

&

…which will end up here…..

…our living room bookshelf - we also have one in the hall, dining room and both kid’s rooms - I need more book shelves- you can never have too many books!!!

It’s also about time to officially hand over my fav cardigan of Natalie’s to Hermionie. (Sorry rest of family, I know I’m supposed to pass it all to you and wait for Hermionie to get it but there are a few items I’m hanging onto for dear life - this being one of them!) It’s soooooo soft and cuddly. Natalie’s been wearing it for about 4 years now!!! We’ve finally decided that cuffs up to her elbows aren’t fashionable, so Hermionie can wear it with folded cuffs round the wrists.

Took the kids to the park (Inside Out Park was Closed again???) for a bit then headed home for dinner. Natalie & Hermionie read through the books I bought and played in the living room. NanL popped down to see and play with the kids and gain a bit of technical support for WinXP - Grrrr!!, GDadL popped in for a bit (on the way to the pub!!)

Alex’s MacBook is running a bit screwy so I’ll spend the best part of the evening sorting that out - will probably re-format it and make it all new - whilst he falls asleep on the sofa watching Click.

A lovely afternoon.

Didn’t achieve much this morning or early afternoon really. Kids were playing in the living room, fed rabbits, looked at sticky’s, mooched generally. Alex & Natalie popped round S&G’s for some bits while Hermionie & I cleaned up a bit - she loves helping me out especially when she’s on her own with me - she takes great delight in helping me clean, dusting, plumping cushions, and attempting to sweep - it’s v. cute, not to say that Natalie doesn’t dislike taking charge of the hoover!!!!

Had another Estate Agent round today who said the same as the other one so negative equity it is then - guess we’ll be staying in this house for the next ten years!

Packed a lunch, filled the car with some much needed - we’ve-been-running-on-fumes-for-days petrol and headed for Southsea. We late-lunched on the green behind the Portsmouth Natural History Museum which was where we headed after eating.

It’s a nice little museum - free (which is a bonus!) but I don’t think it’s changed that much since I went when I was a girl? Nevermind - kids still enjoy running round - we’ve been 5 or 6 times now and they still learn something new, they’ve got some butterflies there as well. (Although they don’t always seem the healthiest/strongest butterflies I’ve ever seen??)

So we spent a good 1 1/2 hours walking round. By closing time - we still hadn’t made it to the microscopes, so Natalie was a little disappointed - will have to make a repeat visit soon.

It was the first time Alex had been - he was quite impressed considering it didn’t cost him any money and it kept the kids busy without arguments or whinging.

Sun was shining, a little windy but pretty much gorgeous on the seafront, headed down to the beach for some pebble-throwing and shell/stone hunting.

Popped past the Southsea Model Village which we’ve never been to - so we’ll add that to the list for another day also. Grabbed an ice-cream from the van and had a lark about practising cartwheels, swinging the kids round. (which Hermionie reaaaaallly doesn’t like - bless her!) The kids then proceeded to bashing Alex about (I remember this as being a favourite pastime with my Dad - play fighting and charging about like loons  )

We then headed for the park to let of some more steam!

Had to return home to eat. All watched Anthea Turner:Perfect Housewife (why? oh why ? - I hear you cry?), I managed to resist the urge to clean the house some more for about 1/2 hour, but the Anthea-Effect got the better of me!!!!

Tucked the kids up on the sofa watching Charlotte’s Web, (I’m still upset by the Spider dying  ) and I have been trying to publish my now-updated iCal calenders without a .Mac account? - Trying the setting up a webdav server on the G5 but it looks a little to scary for me right now, so I’ll settle for sharing via this.

Oh….and just this pic ‘cos I think I’ll miss this face as she grows up!

More piccies up on Flickr now as well - managed to transfer all our photos to iPhoto (can you tell I’m big with the Apple love?) and tag them and found I can drag them straight out of iPhoto to Flickr……little things

Not as Impressed as I thought I’d be……

We went to Stonehenge today. Managed to get up late as usual, took ages to get stuff ready, people organised etc and finally got on the road at about 11:30am. A Lorry had overturned on the road we needed so a detour into unknown territory was needed and more time was lost. Finally arrived later than we said we would (we went on an Home-Educators Free Educational Trip Visit) but it didn’t matter with this site - thank goodness!

Really was not expecting a huge amount of people to be there but it was quite crowded in the car park, lots of languages being spoken, lots of groups of people being hustled about. Weather had been on and off on the drive there so Raincoats were at the ready! We all came out of the tunnel entrance to the stones and I was……….

….severely pi**ed off and disappointed. I had wanted to go up for the Summer Solstice (and WILL next year!) - I had heard that you were allowed to walk among the stones, touch them, get a sense of the sheer size of them and ‘feel’ something being there (I think the site of Stonehenge is more important than the actual stones - correct me if I am wrong - I often am!), well the only thing I felt was ‘Grrrrrrrrrr!’ couldn’t get anywhere near them for the bl**dy barrier - what do they think people are going to do??? - I know the crazies are out there and the stones are things of beauty to be preserved but come on….oh yeah and desecrate the site by putting a concrete path across it yeah!!!!

Humpf - rant not over - they expect us to pay nearly £16 to gawk at the stones from afar????? Thank goodness it was a freebie.

Hadn’t prepared the kids much for Stonehenge - though we’d see what they make of them - Natalie was not at all impressed with the no-touchy rule and proceed to rebel against it by crossing the line.

(Shhhhh!), She listened to the audio tour for a bit, but I guess it wasn’t to her taste - Alex listened to the rest while Natalie and I took photos, and discussed how long the stones had been there, where they came from, how they were erected etc, also saw lots of sheep and rabbits. The weather held out though, although we were a bit early for the sunset (shame  ), we still got some nice shots of the stones, which I’ll photoshop together later.

We bought a Guidebook which re-iterated what was in the audio tour and has some nice stuff in it, we’ll study that later. We looked round the gift-shop but as usual money was an object so we just looked. Saw a nice little model of the stones as they are now which I though we make out of clay one day and maybe shine torches through like the sunrise/set. Had meant to do some’art’ whilst at Stonehenge, but neither Natalie nor I felt like it after the dissapointment of the barriers (Natalie had wanted to crayon and chalk ‘rub’ the stones).

Starving hungry and lunch packed ‘cos we had no bread  - we left in search of food…..

…and came across a Harvester in Salisbury (Our favourite) - so we all shared a Plantation Platter for two and several bowls of salad - £20 not bad for the four us and it goes on the Credit Card so it doesn’t count. Whilst in Harvester we all studied the Stonehenge Guidebook and talked about Stonehenge and the area in general.

Tummy’s full, we set off home, via the New Forest - well we couldn’t miss the opportunity - sun was shining and it is kind of on the way home. Had a lovely drive through, saw some pony’s, lots of lovely English green open land without a pylon in sight in some cases! Popped to our usual New Forest Haunt - Boltons Bench - no ponies  (well only 2 and a donkey!) - they’re usually gathering in masses here - so we drove on to find some more to satisfy the horse-freaks in the car. Hermionie found a keepsake stone to add to her collection.

Found some lovely pony’s and foals as we drove through to Beaulieu and a small group of donkey’s with a Foal Ahhhhhh!, they even let us stroke them - they were lovely. Off home the more scenic way than just joining up with motorway as soon as we could - saw lots of VW campers - aren’t they cool? - I think we’re going to need to change the car soon - can’t justify driving round in the ‘05 Picasso really - love the campers but would probably go for something a little more reliable - going to need more seats and the space would be great for car-boots.

Got home - completely shattered all round, kids milkshaked and off to bed.

Sunny Sunday - Hah!….not!

Today did not start out so well for me, woke up and peed for England (as pregnant women usually do!) and ended up back in bed with excruciating abdominal pains that I couldn’t seem to shift. Spent a while crying in pain, Alex was getting more & more worried  . I think I can put it down to too much Iron in the Pregnancy Supplements I’m taking - Iron makes it difficult to go to toilet, if you don’t do a no2 for a while you get backed up and it hurts!! - at least I hope that’s the explanation - there’s no spotting so fingers crossed.

A bacon sarnie and a cup of tea made the world of difference and the pain eventually went. Sat down and watched Backyardigans with the kids, much to Alex’s disgust! Natalie played with her MoonSand (anyone have a recipe for this stuff, we’ve done floam, play-dough and gloop) and Hermionie played with Natalie’s Wooden Marble Run (must remember to fetch marbles from underneath the sofa  ). Both kids then moved onto playing dress-up downstairs. I cleaned up and sorted some washing out (tumbler again - grrrr!) and found that the stupid boiler had leaked all over the microwave again, all made Shepherd’s Pie for dinner, ate it and went out for drive (we intended going for a walk but we don’t have webbed feet and really the weather only suits ducks right now!) around the more country-ish parts near us and drove into as many deep puddles as we could find  kids found it hilarious.

Came home and tidied up the aftermath of the dressing-up session (well, Alex did ‘cos I had fallen asleep again) and got kids of to bed.

Natalie is upstairs pulling out her wobbly tooth out. Yuk!

….Alex has Natalie’s 8th tooth in his hand - guess we have to shell the money out then! (and sprinkle fairy dust over the money, Natalie’s pillow and put a dot of it on her cheek, ‘cos that’s where the Tooth Fairy gives her a kiss  - don’t ask me why I started it but I did and now we have to keep it up - just hope I can find the fairy dust!)

Sunny carnival, wet fayre.

Got up and brushed my teeth - big mistake, morning sickness gets instantly worse when retching over the sink because the toothpaste tastes yucky!!

I sorted out some pocket money for Natalie and Hermionie to take out with us today. We walked down the road and waited for the carnival parade to appear, Natalie took some photos and made a new friend (who goes to her old school!) while we watched the parade go by.

We walked up to field following the carnival procession and had a look round. It’s quite sad I remember when I was younger, the carnival used to be held on the bigger field near us and it used to fill it up, it’s now on a field not 1/10th it’s size and they struggle to get anything other than carbooters.

Natalie did a coloring competition, looked at the rescue greyhounds. Nan&GDadP turned up (they got stuck in traffic ‘cos of carnival  ). NanP spoiled kids - Natalie adding to her original Polly Pocket Collection & Hermionie got her own four-poster cot for her babies.

We looked at the carboot stuff and then moved onto the School Fayre (Natalie’s Old School) - sadly not as good as last year - the heaven’s opened and there was a downpour complete with thunder and lightening.

I picked up some books for the kids (I managed to get a good copy of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar‘ - there’s a great resource for this and other favourite books, including ‘Dear Zoo‘ at Kizclub). Alex won a bottle of whiskey for 50p (guess I won’t be drinking that ’til February then! - Alex doesn’t like whiskey - he’s a wine lover!)

Natalie went off and played with her old friends, including the ones she sees at Brownies - she was extremely happy running about her old school with her friends (who all miss her  ) Alex wondered whether she should be at school? Natalie would not! I think it was more about the fact that she knew she wouldn’t be sat on that cold hard floor in the hall come Monday morning, not able to talk freely to her friends!

We all sat down and ate some lovely cakes, Hermionie has been big with the NanP love today, I’ve hardly had a look-in  . Natalie was supposed to go to a brownies bbq this afternoon, but we deceided against it because it was pi**ing it down raining and also Natalie found that A wouln’t be going so now she didn’t want - the rain was just convenient  .

All got back to our house in the rain for tea and some lunch - GDadP took his usual position on the sofa with the DS Lite (I shall have to try and find NanP a new one of her own!) Natalie played more ‘Barbie Horse Adventures’ on PS2 (she’s progressing quite well on this game, without any help from me!), Natalie and Hermionie both spent some time reading books I bought, including this one and playing with their news toys.

Alex has been sorting out eBay, there was more rain, I napped (for 2 hrs!!). Nan&GdadP left and kids were attempting to eat their dinner. We all watched Doctor Who and Confidential - 5/5 (can’t see how they’re going to play it?), Hermionie put herself to bed (ahhh!). Alex & I tidied the kids rooms, listened to Glastonbury for a bit on BBC3.
